Eloise Cumbest (lovingly known as ‘Sissy’ for most of her life) passed away on the evening of Tuesday, February 21, 2017.
After a yearlong battle with cancer, she can now find some peace with the good friends, family and loved ones who have gone before her. She was a talented singer in her younger days, a fabulous cook and a lover of antiques and estate sales. She was a great friend to those she let in close. She was a lover of cats especially her Oscar man. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to Kendall, Danny, Steven and Michael. Above all, she was a wonderful and loving ‘moma’ to her daughters, Melissa and Kelli. Always supportive and ready with a hug and a kiss, she rarely stood in the way of the paths they chose to go down. She was much loved and will be deeply missed.
She is survived in death by daughter, Melissa Bixby, her husband, Drew, and granddaughter, Kendall; daughter, Kelli Hanshaw and grandsons Danny and Steven; and her cat, Oscar.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Clark and Bessie Williams Clark, her siblings, John Jr. Clark, Janie Westmoreland and Gladys Bennett and her grandson, Michael Salisbury.
The family would like to express their great thanks to the wonderful teams at Hospice of Light and We Care Inpatient Hospice. We also want to acknowledge the love, devotion and willingness to go above and beyond of her good friends Arline Strickland, Val Klish, Martha Brumfield and Sandra Cooley and as well as her nieces, Paula Hill, Cathy Dean and Donna Barrett.
At her request, we will not be holding a funeral service. If you would like to leave a memorial or note for the family, you can do so at www.smfs.us
