Obituary for Ray

Ray
Raymond (Ray) DeLong, resident of Biloxi, passed away peacefully on June 10 at the age of 85 at Canon Hospice in Gulfport.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Louise, after 47 years of marriage. He leaves his children Jill Smith, Kristin (Brian) Palmer, Scott (Kim) Young, Valerie (Ed) Breen. He was an amazing PopPop to his grandchildren Courtney, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Chelsea, Cameron, Olivia and Abigail. He is also survived by his loving brother, Richard Dellalonga and sister, Teresa Fischetti and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ray was born October 6, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Theresa (Yuzzi) and Louis Dellalonga. After living in New York into adulthood, he moved to Miami, FL where he met and married the love of his life, Louise Young on December 30, 1969. They retired to Fairhope, AL. then spent their last years in Biloxi.

After graduating from Pratt Institute in 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, he followed his dream career as the Director of Properties and Facilities for Pan American World Airways, designing their Clipper Clubs, First Class lounges, gate areas and ticket counters around the world.

His remarkable passion and talent continued with the design of countless houses, restaurants, hotels, buildings and shopping centers across the country. In his spare time his creativity blossomed in his artistic talent drawing animals in amazing detail using just pen and ink, and he drew hundreds.

The tapestry of his life was truly remarkable, filled with travel, good food and the love of many. His huge personality was legendary.

Special thanks to Dawn McKenzie for her compassion, assistance and love for both Ray and Louise.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society in his name.

According to Ray and Louise’s wishes, a private celebration of their lives will take place in Lake George, NY.
