Obituary for Dorothy Jean Hatcher (Sherman)

Dorothy Jean Hatcher, 70, of the Salem Community, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017.

She was a foster mother to over 300 hundred children for over thirty years. She was most well known for her candy making and biscuit making. She was also a competitive bowler. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, "Nana" and "GiGi" who was devoted to her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur James "Big John" Hatcher; parents, James and Dorothy Sherman; brothers, Eddie (Patricia) Sherman and Lynn Sherman, and niece Kally Slider.

Survivors include her loving friend and daughter, Debbie Hatcher; siblings, J.P. (Becky) Sherman, Willie (Kathy) Sherman, and Donna (Melroy) Slider, her precious granddaughter, Jaden Hatcher, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was "GiGi" to a host of great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Magnolia Springs Assembly of God, 7300 Campground Road, Moss Point, MS 39562.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the church with Brother Jerry Goff, Brother William Hancock, and her oldest Brother, Brother J.P. Sherman officiating.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband following the services at Barton Baptist Church Cemetery, 2202 Highway 63, Lucedale, Mississippi 39452
