Jerry D. Mahand, age 79 and a resident of Gulfport, passed away on September 20, 2017, in Gulfport.
He was born December 28, 1937, in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Nolan and Cleo (Cox) Mahand. Jerry joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956. He served as a C-130 Flight Engineer during the Vietnam War. He finally retired as a Flight Engineer with the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (Hurricane Hunters). In 1966, he married in Tokyo to Minako (Mikki) and settled in Gulfport. They celebrated 51 years of marriage in May.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Minako (Shintaku) Mahand; his sons, Michael E. Mahand and his wife Susan of Barcelona, Spain; Richard N. Mahand and his wife Melissa of Gulfport and Jerry D. Mahand, Jr. and his wife Christine of Gulfport; his daughter, Lisa Williams and her husband Aaron of Ocean Springs; ten grandchildren, Phillip, Richard, and Paul of Barcelona, Spain; Michael of Gulfport; Abigayle, Lily, and Tristan of Gulfport; Megan, Christian, and Shelby of Ocean Springs; one great-grandchild, Neilson of Gulfport and many nieces and nephews.
He will be laid to rest on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at 2:30pm at Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors to be rendered by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
