Obituary for Donald Joseph Johnsen Sr.

Donald Joseph  Johnsen Sr.
Donald Joseph Johnsen, Sr., age 86 and a resident of Pascagoula, died peacefully of congestive heart failure on Thursday, September 28, 2017, while surrounded by family at We Care Hospice facility in Moss Point.

Mr. Johnsen served in the Marines with the 1st Division during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Pascagoula from New Orleans in 1968. He and his wife of 47 years, Carolyn (Morrow) Johnsen, owned and operated Johnsen’s Marine and Outboard Engine Service on Market Street for 42 years. Johnsen also worked at Ingalls as a mechanical engineer before opening the marine business.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Morrow) Johnsen; sons, Donald Joseph “Chip” Johnsen, Jr. of Covington, LA, Eric Johnsen and wife Lisa, and Chris Johnsen and wife Kim, all of Pearl River, LA; four step-children, James Claiborn “Sonny” Arthur of Arkansas, Connie (Arthur) Scharnhorst and husband Steve of Pascagoula, Kim (Arthur) Bergeron and husband Phil of Hammond, LA, and Michael Alan Arthur and wife Wendy of Pascagoula; grandchildren, Laura Meyers, Zack Hartmann, Jennifer Shubert, Kim Schultz, Nicole Smith, Eric Johnsen, Jr., Adam Johnsen, Mary-Katherine McKnight, Chris Johnsen, Jr., Ryan Johnsen, Casey Rimkus, Chasity Mouton, Nick O’Brien, Kristen Williamson, Clay Arthur, Keely Cooley, and Jonathan Agent; 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Svend Henry Johnsen and Antoinette (Valenti) Johnsen, as well as his sister, Gloria King.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017, from 6pm until 8pm at Southern Mississippi Funeral Services, 6631 Washington Avenue in Ocean Springs.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at 11am at Biloxi National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Gideons International Processing Center, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251.
