Obituary for Elsie Mae Higgins

Elsie Mae Higgins, age 95 and a resident of Long Beach since 2005, died on December 2, 2017, in Long Beach

Mrs. Higgins was a native of Bay St. Louis and a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy. Mae and her children traveled around the world with Mr. Higgins, who was a World War II veteran. Mae loved gardening, sewing clothes for herself and her children, quilting, handiwork, and doing ceramics. Her biggest joy was fishing and crabbing on the piers in Bay St. Louis and Gulfport. Her children and grandchildren also enjoy many of the wonderful hobbies she loved. She took pride in her years of working at Service Merchandise and selling homes.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Capdepon; her father, Henry Capdepon, her sister, Gloria Bolin; her brother, Henry Capdepon, Jr.; her husband, Bill Higgins (married for 33 years;) her son, Billy Higgins and a grandson, Robert Sean McNally.

Mrs. Higgins is survived by her children, Carol Josephs (Marty,) Barbara Gay, Jeanne Welsh (Bill,) and Jan Hansen (Mark;) her sister, Gladys Bassett; her grandchildren, Michael Levant Stouder, Joseph Martin Stouder, David Allen Stouder, Brian Paul Stouder, Peter John Stouder, Michael Dean McNally, Shawn Patrick Welsh (Danielle,) James Peter Hansen (Ariana,) and William Nicholas Hansen (Chelsea;) her great grandchildren, Bobby McNally, Lauren McNally, Chandler Welsh, Caroline Welsh, Carter Welsh, Violette Hansen, her great-great grandchild, Hunter McNally and numerous grandchildren from Colorado.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 12’Noon at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery in Gulfport.
