Obituary for James Brooks Jr.

James Brooks Jr.
James Dabna “Jim” Brooks, Jr. age 75, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017, at his home in Diamondhead, Mississippi. Jim was born April 9, 1942, in Orange, New Jersey to Dorothy (Gilmore) and James Dabna Brooks. Jim was preceded in death by his father.

Jim is survived by his mother, his loving wife of 36 years, Patricia Rogers Brooks, their daughter, Heather Brooks Jones (David), and his step-daughter, Kay LeBlanc Joyner. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard, Michael, and Gary Brooks. He will always be “Paw Paw” to his grandsons, David P. Hebert, III and Stephan N. Joyner, and “Uncle Jim” to his niece Michelle Brooks Cameron and nephew James D. Brooks.

Jim was the first Eagle Scout in Anniston, Alabama, sat First Chair Trombone at the University of Alabama, and went on to play and record professionally in several bands, including the Alabama Cavaliers. He also proudly served in the U.S. Navy for six years. Jim was an avid golfer and owner of Brooks Sports. He was a past member of Stonebridge Country Club (Gretna, LA) and Bayou Barriere Golf Club (Belle Chasse, LA), where he enjoyed spending as much time as he could playing his favorite sport.

The family will memorialize Jim’s life privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Junior Golf Association, 1980 Sports Club Drive, Braselton, GA 30517, www.ajga.com. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Southern Care Hospice Services for their compassionate care.
