Obituary for David Glen Cothern

Mr. David Glen Cothern, 71, of Gulfport, died January 9, 2018.

Mr. Cothern was born on February 11, 1946 in Beaumont, TX. Along with his parents Anthony Glen Cothern, Jr. and Marie Davis, he soon relocated to Carriere, MS where they had a family farm. They later moved to Gulfport where he lived most of his life.

Mr. Cothern graduated from Gulfport High School prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corp in 1965. He served in the United States Marine Corp as a Corporal and spent 18 months in Vietnam.
Upon returning home from Vietnam, Mr. Cothern joined Mississippi Power as a high-voltage lineman. Later, he opened his own electrical contracting company. He then joined Memorial Hospital in Gulfport as the Master Electrician and continued there until he retired in 2013.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and could often be found serving in a number of capacities including Adoration Chapel.

Mr. Cothern is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Glen Cothern, Jr. and Marie Davis Cothern, his brother Billy Cothern and his sister Patricia Richards. Survivors include his loving wife, Deborah Gwen Ouille Cothern of Gulfport; sons, Anthony Glen Cothern III (Terri) of Saucier, and Nathan Travis Cothern (Erika) of Gulfport; brother Johnny Cothern of Biloxi; granddaughters, Angela Cothern of Saucier, Audrey and Hannah Cothern of Gulfport, his step-mother Diane Cothern of Biloxi, and life-long friends Jimmy and Sandra Bullen of Perkingston.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to Dr. Michael Seicshnaydre and the Niagra Unit at the Biloxi VA Medical Center for the exceptional care and love they provided.

The family will receive friends from 9-11 am on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery under the direction of Southern Mississippi Funeral Services.
