Obituary for Henry Leon Farmer

Henry Farmer (66) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 in Ocean Springs Hospital.

He was also known as Hank, Po Farm, and sometimes just Farm. One thing that everyone can absolutely agree on was that he knew how to dress. The only time you would catch him not dressed perfectly from his head to his toes was when he was leaving work at the shipyard or when he was doing work around the house. He enjoyed traveling and being around family, before his illness he would make it his business to attend every family reunion.

Mr. Farmer was born in Ocean Springs, MS and was a longtime active citizen in the community. He was an alumnus of Alcorn State University with a Master’s Degree in Special Education.  He was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

In the 1980s, “Hank” traveled to New York and put his degree in Special Education to work.  He took on the job of teaching kids with special needs and became the girl’s track coach.

Hank returned to Ocean Springs and worked for the City of Ocean Springs in public works for a number of years.  During this time, he became a member of the Umpire Association where he umpired several youth sports in Ocean Springs.

After his days of working with Ocean Springs Public Works, Hank took his talents to Northrop Grumman in Pascagoula, MS with the Boilermakers Union. His favorite story was about the day the USS Cole came in from being attacked.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wille “Sunnyman” Farmer Sr. and Minnie Wiley-Farmer of Ocean Springs, MS, whom he loved dearly.

Preceded in death by his brothers: Sammy Bibbs, Eddie Bibbs, Johnny Farmer Sr., Robert Farmer Sr., and Willie Farmer Jr.

Preceded in death by sisters: Essie Mae Howard, Louvinia Farmer-Klokpah, Amies (Bea) Farmer-Boggan, and Barbara Ann Bibbs-Thomas.
