Audrey Anastasia O’Neill Lestrade was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on August 4, 1934. The daughter of Francis O’Neill and Evelyn Rose Delaney, she had one sister, Margaret Rose Briffitt who preceded her in death.
Audrey graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1955 and worked as a nurse until her retirement. She married Oscar Paul Lestrade, Jr. in 1960, continuing to work as a nurse and raise seven children. She had been a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral Parish and was a Catholic all her life.
She will be remembered as a dedicated mother, excellent friend, playing card games, working puzzles, and loving Biloxi has her second home. She had a sharp mind, biting wit, and was an excellent story teller of the history of both her Canadian family and her family here on the coast. She always watched the weather, warning her children to keep an eye on it.
Audrey leaves behind her seven children – Leah Margaret Tharp, wife of Will Tharp, Oscar Paul Lestrade III, husband of Elizabeth Alexander, George Francis (Frank) Lestrade, Thomas Michael Lestrade, Martha Evelyn Lestrade Galle, Ernest Phillip Lestrade, husband of Dawn Miller Lestrade, and Mary Elizabeth Lestrade.
Her grandchildren include Robert William Tharp, Josephine Anastasia Tharp, and Kay-Lee Rose Tharp, Megan Lestrade, fiancé to Matt Forester, Joshua Lestrade, husband of Dominique Lestrade, Stephen Lestrade, and Gabrielle Rose Lestrade, Shawn Havens Galle and Haven Nicole Galle, Christian Michael Moore, husband of Zoe Miller Moore, Shelby Grace Lestrade, and Jillian Marie Lestrade.
Her great grandchildren are Tristan Lestrade and Edan McClantoc, Savannah Lestrade, Jacob Lestrade, and Lucas Lestrade, and Austin Lane, and Olivia Mary Moore (and a sibling on the way!). Her best friends, Shirley Lawson and Virginia Baxter will miss her. This legacy of friends and family will keep her memory alive.
A Mass of Christian will be celebrated at 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 10 am until service time at the church. Southern Mississippi Funeral Services is serving the Lestrade family.
